News of a sound source excavated that has not been seen in recent years is brought to you by the British BBC. Two weeks after The Beatles released their debut album, a 60-minute live show was discovered at Stowe School, a prestigious all-boys school in Buckinghamshire, England.
The single "Please Please Me" became a hit and the band's popularity began to increase in the UK. The school concert on April 4, 1963 was made possible by David Moores, a student at the school, who wrote a letter to the Beatles.
It was recorded by John Bloomfield, a 15-year-old schoolboy at the time, and was kept for 60 years (now in the British Library).
It was brought to the BBC last month and only parts of four songs were aired: "I Saw Her Standing There," "Too Much Monkey Business," "Memphis, Tennessee" and "Please Please Me."
And now the entire 60 minutes has appeared here.
Perhaps because it is a prestigious boys' school in England, the cheers from the students are muted, but thanks to this, the sound quality makes it easy to hear the performance. George's guitar has a larger balance, and his guitar playing is 20% sharper than usual.
The sound quality was not good, perhaps due to the limitations of the equipment at the time, but it has been demixed and remastered using today's latest technology.
22 incredible songs, including "Love Me Do," "Thank You Girl," and "Missouri," were performed for the first time in a manned live performance, other than the past series of BBC broadcasts (sadly). However, ``Money'' has some cuts).
Occasionally requests are made, and the stage progresses passionately and peacefully. After the performance, there was a dinner party at the school, where they interacted with the students.
On this day, before visiting the school, the Beatles recorded a performance for BBC broadcasting, and then photographer Dezo Hoffman took a photo in front of the BBC broadcasting company.
This is the famous shot that was also used on the cover of ``Live at the BBC''. D. Hoffmann continued to accompany him to Stowe School and left behind many photographs.
Until now, we had known this much, but I can't hide my surprise at the fact that such a long concert was held and such songs were played.
After this, the popularity of the Beatles exploded. We will also be organizing live tours around the world and will be performing many live shows, but all of them will only be 30-minute package shows.
This is a historical excavation of the only recorded long live performance other than the Star Club live performance.
For enthusiasts, it is recognized as the only sound source that gives you an idea of the Beatles' performance style during this period, but for general fans, the sound quality may be harsh.
However, the set list is perfect for this time of year.
In order to enjoy it, the first edition will include a bonus CD containing the set list of Stowe Gakuen from BBC Live, which has good sound quality. Please fully enjoy the atmosphere of the miraculous performance.
