P.J. PROBY
"THE DAY LORRAINE CAME DOWN" b/w
"MERY HOPPKINS NEVER HAD DAYS LIKE THESE"
LIBERTY RECORDS # LBF 15152
**********************************************************
This is the original Swedish 45.and it's the ONLY issue for the track "MERY HOPPKINS NEVER HAD DAYS LIKE THESE"
A VERY interesting piece that was NOT included on the Proby collaboration LP "THREE WEEK HERO".
He was very famous in Britain, though an Elvis-alike rock and roller a little past his sell-by date by the time he was augmented by the supergroup who were not even named at this point!
Indeed Mr James Page intended to carry on The Yardbirds name, so had played a couple of dates as 'The New Yardbirds'! That moniker seems very corny now, and members of The WHO remarked that they'd "go down like a lead zeppelin", an overstatement on sinking like a lead balloon.
Here they were just in the rehearsal stages previous to recording Led Zeppelin 1, and spurred on by a past legend - they agreed to session on his album with John Paul Jones....maybe for a bit of free studio experience for Plant and Bonham.
The 'A' side is the most apt track off the album, so it's really good on itself, but on the 'B' side they could fool around, orchestrated by the American crooner!
The lads get called out on the track, "JPJ" was clear, then Jimmy for a guitar piece, while Bonham got an obscure nod, perhaps for percussion rather than his thunderous drums.
Anyway it's the ONLY place to get this original historical track, and is way tougher to find than the PJ Proby lp.
CONDITION;
The VINYL plays well, sound is strong and grades VG++, a little travel on the spaces beginning and ending the single.
Labels are EX as seen in the photos.
The paper sleeve picture cover is VG++ overall, quite well preserved and clean. A little white paint hides some light pen, and a price sticker has been mostly removed on the rear.
An original copy of this unusual obscure, and historically significant vinyl record.
